Replacing the stock crank and handle on the Comandante Mk 4 manual coffee bean grinder with the
Optional Comandante XL “Black Crank” and “BIG JOE” knob makes it easier to get a firm grip on the knob and grind with less strenuous motions. I’m glad I tried the stock setup first - changing over shows how much value the optional crank and knob add to the grinder for many users, including me.

An Excellent Accessory!

For whatever reason I have been committed to hand grinding my coffee from the beginning. As I’m just grinding the beans my wife and I use on a daily basis, it’s very manageable. It can be a bit tedious though. Before purchasing the Comandante C40 MK4 I was using a Hario Skerton. On occasion I would grind the beans I would need to make Aeropress coffee for a weekend trip before leaving. It felt like it took absolutely forever to get done and my hands were plenty tired when I did. Because of this I decided to invest in the XL “Black Crank” with “Big Joe” knob. I figured, why not give myself every advantage? I’m very glad I did! The Comandante C40 MK4 is an outstanding grinder with a higher processing rate than I was getting with my previous grinder. Still, when I switch beans and have to dial the Comandante in to pull espresso shots properly, there can be a good bit of grinding involved. The XL “Black Crank” is about 2.5 cm (1 in.) longer than the standard crank and the “Big Joe” knob is 5.4 cm as opposed to the standard 4.7 cm knob. This additional heft makes for very comfortable grinding. Actually, the Comandante with it’s standard crank and knob are worlds better than my previous grinder but the XL “Black Crank” is, in fact black, which looks very nice with my Comandante C40 MK4, which I purchased in black. Even came with a black glass collection bottle! So I’m all blacked out and pretty pleased.

The knob fits my large hand perfectly! The arc of grinding is much more efficient for me. Great purchase, thank you!

Great product, wonderful service

I have had one of these mandolins for years and use it all the time. It is simple to use, easy to clean and doesn't take up half a cabinet. After probably 25 years of regular use the blades were all beginning to be a little dull and there is no easy way to sharpen them. I looked all over trying to find a replacement and in the end ordered it from the source in Germany. The whole process was easy and I got notifications of shipping and tracking info. The product arrived well within the window that was quoted and it was well packed so there was no damage to packaging or product.I'm happy to have a nice sharp replacement that is as solid and well built as the original.

super nice pepper grinder, with very efficient mechanism.

This grinder replaces a Zassenhaus grinder we have had for 30 years, and finally failed. The replacement is a dream and better than the original. Possibly due to the ceramic grind elements. Beautiful finish and a joy to use.

Excellent Crusty Sourdough Bread Slicer

Works great for slicing thick crusty loaves.
1 minor complaint, after slice is cut, it falls down onto the board and prevents slicing the next slice. Needs a slight engineering fix.
