I bought the Zassenhaus Retro Hand Bread Slicer Classic a couple of years ago for myself, and I use it every single week. I absolutely love how effortless it is to get perfectly sliced bread for sandwiches, and it cuts through my crusty artisan breads that I bake with ease. I am so impressed with it (and love it), that I recently bought one for my niece for her birthday and she was very happy to receive it. I recently timed myself when slicing a double loaf of bread, and it was under 1 1/2 minutes from start to finish. The most difficult part of baking bread was slicing it, now, it’s effortless and it’s one of the best and regularly used small appliances I use. It sticks perfectly to our granite counter and easily comes off when putting it away (if I had the room, I would leave it on my counter, though). Highly recommend for yourself or as a gift to the bread baker you love.

The bread slicer is easy to assemble and use and cuts perfect slices every time. You need to find an adequate surface onto which the suction cups will properly attach to ensure that the slicer does not move while you're slicing. A marble surface didn't work for us, but a melamine one did.

I grew up using these slicers as a kid in Denmark, loved them then, love it now! Product is as described and shown.

Difference between what I used as a child is the newer version has suction cups to hold it in place on the counter, (can’t see that working on the old wooden counters) as you feed your bread through to slice it. The old model had a screw “vice-like” grip to secure it to the counter while cutting.

Maybe I’m wrong, but the newer model seems slightly smaller with the hand crank sitting slightly lower. That means the bread that has been sliced, if it’s a large loaf, doesn’t easily pass under the crank when turning the handle .

Works like a charm. One minor complaint: it could use a piece (some kind of guide) to hold up the slice that’s being cut so that it doesn’t flop over and get in the way.

It’s perfect for cutting my sourdough and other homemade breads. I love the retro styling, but its true value comes in the adjustable, precise slicing blade. It’s sharp and easy to use (bigger boules can be a bit tricky to cut because of their size). The suction cups are perfect for keeping the device in place. We love our Zassenhaus. Worth every penny!

This was a gift and the recipient loves it! It slices well, the crank is smooth and appears well made. The suction could be better—it doesn’t stick to the counter at all, which is not a problem for softer loaves but it can move around a bit with a denser loaf.

I purchased the Zessenhaus Bread Slicer as a gift, and they are totally happy with the size and easy to use bread slicer!

I bought this as a gift for my sourdough crazed mom and she loves it! It is easy to use, she loves the adjustable bread sizes for when she wants a thicker slice with her sweet breads, and looks very nice. I think it will hold up for a very long time, the coating is thick, high quality and exactly as pictured. Shipping was super quick and there was communication the whole time. Great product! Will be looking at other items to gift people from here in the future!

We baked a French loaf of bread, let it cool enough to slice it and the bread slicer makes precision cuts and perfect slices of very fresh bread. Should have bought this a long time ago, no more crooked slices of bread!!

Lovely product that is a joy to use. Would be very nice if there was a guard to stop the slice coming out of the slicer hitting the handle. Also the suction cups slip on a stone bench top. Perhaps there could be a hook to grab the edge of the bench.
