Beer boots have a long-standing tradition in European drinking culture. Dating back to the Middle Ages, this unique glass shape was inspired by military boots worn until the 19th century. Back then, drinking from real worn boots was a form of punishment or a test of courage.
Today, the beer boot is a fun and sociable way to enjoy a drink with friends. But beware: as the beer reaches the toe of the boot, air pressure can build up – if you don’t rotate the glass evenly while drinking, a sudden surge of beer may splash out.
